A four-year-old boy was among the four individuals who perished after a 16-wheeler truck collided with three motorcycles at the intersection of Ortigas Avenue and Lanuza Avenue early Sunday morning, as reported by the Pasig Police.
Sam Nielsen’s Super Radyo DzBB report revealed that three of the victims belonged to the same family, including the young boy. The fourth casualty was the driver of another motorcycle. Additionally, two other victims sustained injuries, including fractured arms and ribs, and are currently receiving medical attention. Another victim, also a motorcycle rider, has been discharged from the hospital.
The tragic accident led to heavy traffic in the area. The 16-wheeler truck, carrying thousands of sacks of rice, spilled its load onto the road during the collision.
The truck driver informed investigators that he lost control of his brakes, veered sharply to the right, and collided with the motorcycles ahead before the truck overturned. He is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple fatalities, serious injuries, and property damage.
In a 24 Oras Weekend report, it was noted that all three motorcycles involved in the incident were completely destroyed, along with a rider’s helmet. Pasig City Chief of Police, P/Colonel Hendrix Mangadan, stated, “We have accounted for nine casualties, all of whom were taken to the hospital.”
Despite the tragedy, some bystanders attempted to salvage as much of the spilled rice as possible from the overturned truck. One individual remarked, “This is still edible. We just need to clean it. It’s such a waste, especially given the high price of rice in the market.”
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the accident.
