SEVERAL individuals were taken into custody on Tuesday during the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) gathering along EDSA, after reports emerged that some participants punched police officers amid a confrontation.
A member of the media covering the event confirmed witnessing at least three arrests as of 9:00 a.m., as tensions rose between the crowd and law enforcement personnel stationed in the area.
The situation escalated following increased exchanges between rally participants and the deployed police force, leading authorities to make the arrests.
As of press time, officials have not yet released the exact total number of people detained or specified the formal charges that will be filed against them. The gathering itself drew thousands, with earlier estimates placing the crowd at around 7,000 people near the People Power Monument.
In a statement, the INC clarified that the assembly was organized to call for transparency, accountability, justice, and peace. The activity came just one day after the Office of the Ombudsman announced on Monday that it would file a non‑bailable plunder case against Senator Rodante Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan.
Authorities continue to monitor the area closely to ensure the situation remains under control while balancing the right to assembly with public safety and order.
