THE Quezon City government announced on Thursday that La Loma, known as the lechon capital of Metro Manila, is now free from African swine fever (ASF).
The QC LGU said that after ordering the temporary closure of 14 lechon or roasted pig shops in La Loma affected by ASF, the establishments conducted daily disinfection of their facilities for a week, with the assistance of the City Veterinary Department and QC Health Department.
“In addition to disinfection, the 14 establishments were ordered to comply with all sanitary and safety protocols,” the LGU said.
Currently, 3 establishments have been given lifting orders and are now allowed to operate again after complying with the regulations of the City Health Department and the City Veterinary Department.
“The local government will continue to assist entrepreneurs to ensure that all of them comply with the protocols and that the products coming from La Loma remain high quality,” it added.
Lechon shop owners previously said that the closure order came at a critical time when there are many Christmas parties where lechon is a common dish.
