QCPD apologizes to family of singer Janno Gibbs over leaked video of his father’s death

admin January 16, 2024

THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has extended its sincere apologies to the family of singer/actor Janno Gibbs over the leaked video of his father veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez’ death.

“The QCPD extends its sincere apologies to the Gibbs family regarding the recent incident where a member of our police force inappropriately took a video of the late Mr. Ronaldo Valdez,” it said.

“We acknowledge the gravity of this lapse in judgment of some of our personnel, and we deeply regret any distress this may have caused,” the QCPD added.

“Rest assured that swift and decisive action is being undertaken. The involved personnel will face appropriate administrative charges for their actions. We want to emphasize that this behavior is not reflective of the values we uphold in QCPD,” it said.

Valdez was found dead inside his house in Quezon City last December 17, 2023. A video of the crime scene showing an unresponsive Valdez circulated on social media.

On Monday, Gibbs called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) to issue an apology over the leaked video.

In a statement read by his abogado Lorna Kapunan, Gibbs said “such negligent handling of the investigation, and the consequent media attacks against my family, caused us immense emotional distress.”

“We strongly denounce, in the strongest terms possible, the evident mismanagement of the investigation and mishandling of sensitive data showing apparent lapses and breaches of confidentiality on the part of the investigation team,” he said.

“Such reckless actions of certain individuals in leaking sensitive information are deeply alarming— not just for my family, but for society as a whole,” Gibbs said.

The QCPD said it identified five police officers involved in the unauthorized circulation of the video.

They will face administrative charges, including neglect of duty, grave irregularity in the performance of duty, grave misconduct in relation to the Data Privacy Act of 2012, and the cybercrime law, among others.
