THE Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) will investigate vlogger Rendon Labador for possible violation of privacy after he live streamed a police raid of the offices of a company involved with an online lending application.
The PNP-ACG had allowed Labador, along with other media entities, to cover the operation and they were given “limited access,” according to ACG spokesperson Capt. Michelle Sabino.
Sabino said the media and vloggers were invited in the spirit of transparency and to ensure comprehensive coverage of the raid, and were only given access after the execution of the operation.
“Addressing concerns about the potential violation of privacy committed by Rendon, we will thoroughly investigate this matter. If any violation is confirmed, we will take appropriate and corrective action,” Sabino said in a statement.
This came after relatives of the company’s employees complained that the latter’s faces were shown in Labrador’s video, and that he made it appear as if they were already guilty.
Labrador’s video showed the office and the workers, with some of them moving to cover their faces.
“Sila po yung nang ha-harass sa inyo,” he said.
Sabino also said her partnership with Labrador to raise public awareness about online scams is a separate matter from this operation.
“The PNP ACG actively collaborates with various agencies and businesses, such as GCASH, Maya, Globe, Smart, PLDT, PNB, DMW (formerly POEA), and SCAM Watch Philippines (a social media page). Together, we work on public awareness campaigns to educate the public about the evolving tactics of scammers,” she said.
