CONSTRUCTION has commenced on the new and modern EDSA Busway Kamuning Concourse, featuring an improved and pedestrian-friendly walkway and wheelchair lifts designed to benefit commuters, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The project follows President Marcos’ directive in June to remove the steep “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge, which posed significant challenges for pedestrians and passengers attempting to navigate it.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon stated that the new footbridge will connect to the EDSA Busway Kamuning Station and will be modeled after the SM North Concourse.
“When the President saw this, he was really disappointed. He said that pedestrians and commuters should not be made to suffer, so he immediately ordered the removal of this Mt. Kamuning,” Secretary Dizon said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation of the EDSA Busway Kamuning Station, alongside Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and House Transportation Committee Chair Rep. Franz Pumaren.
Dizon explained that the construction will not disrupt commuters and motorists, as the structure will be pre-fabricated.
The new EDSA Kamuning Busway Station and footbridge will include comprehensive mobility and accessibility features to facilitate pedestrian crossings and passenger boarding. The EDSA Kamuning Busway Station and footbridge are targeted for completion in December, with the support of SMDC, which provided space for the construction of the new concourse.
