METRO Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) commuters can expect no fare increases in the coming year, according to the MRT-3 management. Officials have confirmed that there are no discussions or plans for a fare hike in 2026.
Instead of raising fares, MRT-3 General Manager Mike Capati stated that the focus will be on improving the line’s stations, particularly the escalators. He announced plans to replace escalators at Taft Avenue and Ayala stations between 2026 and 2027. The MRT-3 will also gradually deploy Dalian trains, with a target of deploying all 48 Dalian trains before the end of 2026.
These improvements are expected to help maintain the 3.5-minute headway for passengers and potentially increase the line’s capacity from 500,000 passengers per day to 600,000-700,000 passengers per day. The assurance of no fare hike, coupled with ongoing improvements, aims to provide a more reliable and comfortable commuting experience for MRT-3 passengers.
