THE Makati City council has approved the suspension of the collection of amusement taxes in a bid to support local artists and ramp up tourism in the city.
Makati City Mayor Abby Binay thanked the council for passing City Ordinance 2023-269 modifying the Revised Makati Revenue Code to suspend the tax on fees involving theatrical, musical or other performances and for the use of public entertainment areas.
In a December 27 letter to the council, the mayor said the suspension would help spur economic growth in the tourism and entertainment sectors in the city.
“By suspending amusement taxes, we are promoting economic sustainability and empowering the creative force within our city,” Binay said.
She said she envisions a Makati “that positively buzzes with creativity and innovation, a city that appreciates and fully supports the ingenuity of the Filipino artist.”
“By suspending the amusement tax, we can foster the growth and sustainability of the creative industries within our city, thereby stimulating economic activity and attracting tourism,” Binay said.
