A FIRE broke out at an office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City, on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection – National Capital Region (BFP-NCR).
The BFP-NCR reported that the fire was reported at 12:39 p.m. and reached the third alarm at 12:56 p.m. At least 10 fire trucks responded to the scene. Authorities have yet to release information regarding possible casualties, the extent of the damage, and the cause of the fire. GMA Integrated News’ Chino Gaston reported on social media that the fire affected the Bureau of Research Standards building of DPWH Quezon City.
The fire occurs amidst ongoing investigations into DPWH-implemented flood control projects in Quezon City and other areas in the country. Last month, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte reported that 35 flood control projects in the city are missing.
The local government has also reported 331 flood control projects worth P17 billion, of which P7.7 billion are alleged insertions and were not included in the 2024 and 2025 National Expenditure Programs (NEPs). GMA News Online is currently seeking information from the DPWH regarding important documents that are stored in its Quezon City office.
