Eleazar commends QCPD, urges to continue drive vs illegal gambling

RECALLING how he had also initiated a campaign against illegal gambling aside from the usual drive against criminality and drug addiction, former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar commended the Quezon City Police District’s continuing and aggressive anti-illegal gambling operations which recently bagged 46 individuals in several barangays in the city.

On the illegal number games, three suspects were arrested by the QCPD’s Masambong Police Station (PS 2) in a reported gambling joint at the corner of East Riverside and Del Pilar streets in Barangay Paltok and another suspect by Batasan Police Station (PS 6) in a second gambling den on in Bgy. Commonwealth.

Regarding illegal cockfighting or tupada, 34 suspects were caught also by the

Batasan Police Station (PS 6) on Talanay St., Area A in Bgy. Batasan Hills; Anonas Police Station (PS 9) at Block 9, Pook Libis, Bgy. UP Campus; Kamuning Police Station (PS 10) on Cadena De Amor St. in Bgy. Central; Galas Police Station (PS 11) in a vacant lot at the Bolaños Compound in Bgy. Tatalon; Payatas Bagong Silangan Police Station (PS 13) in Area 4, Panther St., Sitio Veterans, Bgy. Bagong Silangan; and Holy Spirit Police Station (PS 14) in Bgy. Holy Spirit.

Meanwhile, in other forms of illegal gambling, operatives of Galas Police Station (PS 11) also apprehended seven suspects while playing billiards at No. 1395 E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue in Bgy. Kristong Hari; and Novaliches Police Station (PS 4) arrested two suspects while playing cara y cruz at the corner of No. 62 Damong Maliit St., Bgy. Nagkakaisang Nayon, Novaliches.

Eleazar, who is running for senator under Partido Reporma, said that it’s only right for local government units (LGUs) to intensify their campaign against illegal gambling, especially when the citizenry has now been given increased mobility under the Alert Level 2 status being implemented in the National Capital Region (NCR).
