HUMAN Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling affirmed the government’s strong commitment to the socialized housing program of Las Piñas City following the allocation of nearly ₱255 million for the project under the 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Aliling conveyed the DHSUD’s continued support for local housing initiatives designed to provide decent, affordable, and secure shelter for underprivileged and homeless families in the city during a meeting with Las Piñas Rep. Mark Anthony Santos and other stakeholders.
Santos said the project is a housing initiative of the National Housing Authority (NHA), an attached agency of the DHSUD, which provides low-cost housing units within or near urban centers for informal settler families (ISFs) and other qualified beneficiaries.
The lawmaker added that the in-city relocation project will finally be implemented by the NHA following the approval on third and final reading of the General Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2026 by the House of Representatives late last year.
According to Santos, the allocated budget will be used for the construction of three medium-rise buildings (MRBs). He said his office has already identified at least two suitable sites in the city’s two districts for the project.
The NHA will identify beneficiaries, including informal settler families residing in danger zones such as waterways, easements, and other high-risk areas, households without adequate housing, and low-income families who meet the eligibility criteria set by the agency.
Beneficiaries will be screened based on housing need, income level, and compliance with program requirements.
“With the support of President Marcos, the DHSUD, the NHA, and other concerned government agencies, the socialized housing program of Las Piñas City will finally be realized after more than a decade of planning and despite opposition from powerful political figures in the city,” Santos, a seven-term city councilor, said.
“The realization of this socialized housing program shows that public welfare can prevail over political resistance,” the solon said.
Aliling said the ₱255 million allocation reflects the national government’s continued support for local housing initiatives aimed at providing decent, affordable, and secure homes for underprivileged and homeless families.
These projects are often aligned with the national government’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) program, which aims to build one million units annually nationwide until 2028.
“The inclusion of this funding in the 2026 GAA underscores our commitment to ensuring that more Filipino families, especially those in highly urbanized areas like Las Piñas, have access to safe and dignified housing,” Aliling added.
