MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno said five areas in Manila where a rise in Covid cases and have been placed under lockdown.
The mayor added he implored residents to continue practicing physical distancing and following safety protocols to prevent a spike of Covid-19 cases.
The areas with the highest number of active Covid-19 cases are Tondo 1 with 29, San Andres with 12, and Pandacan and Sampaloc with seven each.
“Ang [granular] lockdown naman po, katulad ng polisiya ng IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force), kapag medyo nagkakaroon ng konting kapabayaan at lumalago ‘yung Covid infection sa isang lugar eh normal po na i-lockdown ‘yung isang area (A granular lockdown, similar to the policy of the IATF, is enforced when there is a slight negligence and the Covid infection increases in one area; it is normal to lockdown that one area),” Domagoso said in a radio interview. “So, we will continue to have those kinds of surgical lockdown because what we want is for business to open, for people to work.”
On December 26, the city recorded 91 active cases.
Domagoso said Covid wards are almost empty.
“Pero kailangang maging responsable rin tayo. Kailangan magsuot pa rin tayo ng face masks. The mask is a must. ‘Yun lang kailangan natin. Tapos magpabakuna tayo (But we must also be responsible. We still need to wear face masks. The mask is a must. That’s all we need. Then let’s get vaccinated),” he added.
Meanwhile, aside from the NCR, only Cordillera has reported areas under granular lockdown nationwide. The lockdown in four areas in the region were affecting nine people.
