POLICE have apprehended the principal suspect in the gruesome murder case involving an unidentified man whose dismembered body was discovered inside a drum in Manila.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced the arrest of the 32-year-old Taiwanese national, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
The suspect was tracked down to a hotel-casino along Seaside Boulevard in Parañaque City on Thursday afternoon, according to the NCRPO. The Southern Police District (SPD) credited the arrest to the cooperation of the suspect’s live-in partner and the assistance of hotel management, highlighting the importance of collaboration in solving the case.
The discovery of the dismembered body was made after two scavengers alerted authorities, revealing that they had been paid by the suspect and an accomplice to dispose of the drum near the Delpan Sports Complex on Sunday night. Security footage captured the suspect allegedly pushing the drum from his unit in a Pasay condominium to the elevator on the 15th floor early Sunday, further solidifying the evidence against him.
Police have also arrested the suspect’s alleged accomplice, who was captured on security footage waiting for a van he had reportedly rented to transport the drum from the Pasay condominium to Manila.
While the victim has been identified as a Chinese national through a membership card found during the investigation, his name has not yet been released. Both the suspect and his accomplice are currently in the custody of the Pasay City Police Station, awaiting inquest proceedings for murder.
