AT least 34 foreigners believed to be victims of human trafficking were apprehended by members of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2.
According to PNP-AVSEGRP Director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, the foreign nationals were stopped on Monday evening (30 October) while traveling to Cebu. Thirty-one of them are Vietnamese, while the remaining three are Chinese.
The foreigners, according to the PNP-AVSEGROUP, were traveling to Cebu as employees of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators, though some of them later admitted that they had not intended to visit Cebu.
Brig. Gen. Wanky said that four Vietnamese sought their assistance, and three foreigners were arrested for trafficking, including a Chinese national who was found in possession of an unregistered firearm. The suspect denied the allegations and said the gun was not his.
He added that four Filipino interpreters and drivers were also apprehended; they declined to comment but said they were unaware of the accusations.
