A 22-year-old woman was attacked and allegedly molested by a man in Barangay 152, Caloocan City on Monday night. CCTV footage shows the suspect aggressively assaulting the victim, who was using her phone while walking. He forcibly grabbed her blouse, causing her to fall and drop her belongings. Despite her resistance, the suspect continued his assault.
Off-duty barangay tanod Reynaldo Alfonso, witnessing the incident, intervened when he saw the suspect preparing for a second attack. The suspect fled when Alfonso approached. Although Alfonso attempted to pursue him, he was unable to apprehend the suspect. The victim, after recovering her belongings, also left the scene and subsequently reported the incident to barangay and police authorities.
Bagong Barrio Police Substation Commander Police Captain Mikko Arellano stated that based on the CCTV footage and witness testimonies, the suspect attempted to tear the victim’s clothing before assaulting her again, with the intent to molest her. The investigation revealed no prior connection between the victim and the suspect, classifying the incident as a random attack.
Captain Arellano urged the public to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, emphasizing the importance of not being complacent. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the crime. While the suspect has been identified, he remains at large and a warrant for his arrest will be issued if he fails to appear in court. He faces potential charges of acts of lasciviousness, sexual harassment, and physical injuries.
