MANILA Electric Company (Meralco) will refund customers approximately 19 centavos per kilowatt-hour (kWh) over the next 36 months.
This P19-billion refund addresses the discrepancy between Meralco’s actual weighted average tariff and the approved rate of P1.36/kWh from July 2022 to December 2024.
The refund, amounting to 19 centavos per kWh for residential customers (current rate: P11.7428/kWh), is subject to approval by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
The ERC’s December order mandated the refund of expenses related to the incomplete regulatory rate reset process during the 5th Regulatory Period. Meralco serves a large area of Luzon and the Visayas, including Metro Manila, and also has subsidiaries involved in retail electricity supply.
