PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has relieved Norman Tansingco from his post as Immigration Commissioner, the Palace confirmed on Monday.
Press Secretary Cesar Chavez confirmed the dismissal, stating that it was due to the escape of former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, who is linked to illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
“His dismissal has already been approved by the [P]resident,” Chavez told reporters via Viber message.
When asked if the dismissal was related to Guo’s escape, Chavez responded, “Yes, that’s the reason.”
Marcos had previously warned of consequences for BI personnel involved in Guo’s escape, stating that “heads will roll” and that those involved would be fired and sued.
Guo, who fled the country in July while facing charges related to her ties with illegal POGOs, was apprehended in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 4.
The dismissal of Tansingco underscores the seriousness with which the Marcos administration views the issue of illegal POGOs and the escape of individuals linked to them.
