PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the demolition of the so-called “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge in Quezon City due to its excessive height and safety concerns.
Constructed in 2018 by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the footbridge, equivalent in height to a four-to-five-story building, has drawn criticism for its impractical design and safety hazards. Commuters have complained about its difficult accessibility, poor lighting at night, slippery surface during rain, and overall instability.
The structure’s design has proven to be a significant impediment rather than a helpful aid for pedestrians.
A replacement footbridge is planned with improved accessibility and safety features.
The new structure will be significantly lower and include an elevator, strategically located at the EDSA Bus Carousel Kamuning Station for easier access.
Construction is expected to commence this year.
This initiative aims to provide a safer and more convenient pedestrian crossing, addressing the shortcomings of the existing structure and improving the overall commuting experience for residents.
