MORE than P25 million worth of shabu concealed inside a luggage was confiscated from Malaysian national who flew in from Madagascar, said the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
The BOC said the traveler was apprehended by operatives from the BOC-Ninoy Aquino International Airport, in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group.
The drugs were discovered during the screening of the traveler’s luggage, which included x-ray scanning and physical examination, the BOC said.
The shabu, weighing 3.72 kilos, was concealed in the lining of the luggage. The drugs have an estimated value of P25.308 million.
BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio commended the operatives for successfully detecting the illegal drugs.
“This apprehension is a product of the strengthened commitment of our officers to protect our borders from the entry of illicit goods,” Rubio said in a statement.
Authorities will file a case for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act against the traveler.
