A HIGH risk of life-threatening storm surge is expected within the next 24 hours, prompting authorities to urge residents in low-lying coastal communities to evacuate to higher ground immediately. The warning, issued by DOST-PAGASA, indicates a possibility of inundation from rising sea water and high waves in several provinces and municipalities.
The areas facing the greatest threat, with estimated storm surge heights of more than 3 meters, include Antique, Oriental Mindoro, and Palawan. Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Palawan are also at risk of storm surges between 2.1 and 3 meters. Lower, but still dangerous, storm surges of 1-2 meters are possible in Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental.
A detailed list of affected municipalities has been released by DOST-PAGASA.
Residents are strongly advised to stay away from the coast, cancel all marine activities, and move to higher ground away from the coast and storm surge-prone areas. The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are urged to take appropriate actions and precautionary measures and to monitor the latest updates from DOST-PAGASA.
The next storm surge information will be issued at 2:00 AM tomorrow. For more details, check the latest storm surge forecast and updates on the DOST-PAGASA website.
