THE Senate Impeachment Court ordered the issuance of subpoenas to two National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) officials expected to testify on Article IV in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Z. Duterte.
Presiding Officer Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero issued the order after the clerk of court read the prosecution’s request for subpoenas for Atty. Jeremy Lotoc, regional director of the NBI, and John Mark Calilung, senior agent of the NBI.
The request sought to compel the two officials to appear and testify before the impeachment court on July 6, July 7, and July 8, 2026 at 2 p.m.
The clerk of court said their testimonies are “material relevant and necessary to establish the allegations under Article 4 of the articles of impeachment as well as matters necessarily incidental there too.”
The request also said the witnesses would testify “for purposes of the identification and authentication of other evidence before the impeachment court.”
Escudero said the two witnesses were named in the prosecution’s pre-trial brief and were not addressed in the respondent’s pre-trial brief. He allowed the defense to raise objections before ruling.
Escudero then granted the request.
“The chair hereby orders that the subpoena and testificandum and ducestecum be issued to the aforementioned two NBI agents,” Escudero said.
The order clears the way for the two NBI officials to be called as the prosecution begins with Article IV.
