Tennessee community mourns 16 lost in explosives plant blast

admin October 12, 2025

McEwen, TN – A rural Tennessee community is reeling after a devastating explosion at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant claimed the lives of 16 people.

The blast, which occurred on Friday, leveled the explosives plant and shook the surrounding area, leaving behind a scene of charred wreckage.

While investigators search for the cause of the explosion, the focus in McEwen and the wider Humphreys County has shifted to mourning the victims and supporting their families. Sheriff Chris Davis, visibly shaken, addressed the media, requesting prayers for those affected by the tragedy. “We’ve recovered no survivors,” he confirmed, his voice filled with emotion.

At Hurricane Chapel in McEwen, a vigil was held where community members gathered to grieve and offer support. Senior Pastor Tim Farris spoke of the deep pain felt throughout the area. “There’s a lot of people hurting. A lot of people who are crying a lot of tears,” he said. “We are sad that our community is going through this, but it’s a tremendous opportunity for the church to minister to a lot of those people today.”

Farris described the initial shock and numbness experienced by the families, which has now given way to overwhelming grief. “Speaking with some of the families today, they were very emotional,” Farris said. “They can hardly speak or anything, they are so emotional. I think as this goes on, it’s going to hit more people… That’s when they’re going to need people the most.”

The community is now bracing itself for the long and difficult process of healing, as they come together to remember those lost in the tragic explosion.
