SENATOR Win Gatchalian pressed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on January 7, 2025, during a Senate Bill No. 890 (Rightsizing the National Government Act of 2022) consultative meeting, to quantify the bill’s projected cost savings.
He questioned whether the bill would yield substantial savings, eliminating the need for tax increases.
DBM Undersecretary Wilford Will Wong responded that rightsizing 3% of government agencies could save approximately ₱3 billion, and 7% could save around ₱8.7 billion.
However, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero cautioned Wong to factor in separation pay for affected employees before providing final figures to Gatchalian.
The Rightsizing bill seeks to improve government efficiency by reducing redundancies and optimizing resource allocation.
