THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Friday that a Filipino hiker died after experiencing hypothermia during a hiking trip in the Northern Japanese Alps.
The DFA stated that the Philippine Consulate General in Nagoya is coordinating with Japanese authorities to provide assistance to the family of the deceased Filipino, who passed away on October 12 after hiking on Mt. Oku-Hotakadake with a group of fellow Filipino mountaineers.
The DFA did not release the name of the deceased, citing respect for the family’s privacy. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of hiking in mountainous regions, particularly during periods of cold weather, and the importance of being prepared for extreme conditions.
