SOLIDARIDAD Bookshop, a cherished Manila landmark established by the late F. Sionil Jose, has officially been sold to Leandro Leviste, son of Senator Loren Legarda.
The sale marks a new chapter for the iconic literary institution, ensuring its continued operation and the preservation of Jose’s legacy.
The announcement, made via the bookshop’s Facebook page, confirms the transition of ownership to Leviste, who aims to honor the bookshop’s rich history with the guidance of the Jose family.
Antonio “Tonet” Jose, son of F. Sionil Jose, expressed the family’s gratitude and optimism, stating, “Our family will always cherish the memory of Solidaridad and the work our parents put into it. We are excited about the transition to the new ownership and wish them success as they continue the legacy of F. Sionil Jose.”
Leviste acknowledged the significance of Solidaridad and thanked the Jose family for entrusting him with its stewardship. “We thank the Jose family for entrusting us with Solidaridad. We hope they can remain involved and help ensure that the Bookshop’s operations stay true to its history and the legacy of F. Sionil Jose,” he said.
Solidaridad, located on Padre Faura in Ermita, has been a cultural hub since its founding in 1965. The bookshop’s sale follows earlier reports in June that were later clarified by the family. With Leviste at the helm, Solidaridad is poised to continue its role as a vital literary space in Manila.
