THREE beloved Filipino rice dishes – arroz caldo, lugaw, and champorado – have earned international acclaim, securing coveted spots on TasteAtlas’ prestigious list of the Top 100 Porridges in the World. This recognition highlights the diverse and flavorful nature of Filipino cuisine on a global stage.
Arroz caldo, a savory rice porridge known for its ginger-infused broth and tender chicken, achieved an impressive second-place ranking. TasteAtlas describes it as the Filipino adaptation of congee, often enhanced with toppings like scallions, calamansi, or crispy garlic.
Lugaw, another traditional Filipino rice porridge, landed in 10th place. Often enjoyed for breakfast or as a comforting meal during illness, lugaw is praised for its soft texture and easy digestibility.
Champorado, a sweet chocolate-flavored rice porridge made with glutinous rice and cocoa, rounded out the Filipino entries at 19th place. This dish is traditionally paired with milk and dried salted fish for a unique sweet and savory experience.
Indonesia’s Bubur ayam, a chicken congee variation, claimed the top spot on the list.
