ALEX Eala’s run at the Suzhou Open WTA 125 ended in a heartbreaking quarterfinal loss to Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (0).
The fourth-seeded Eala squandered a match point in the third set before being shut out in the tiebreak, marking another early exit in her Asian swing.
After a dominant first set, Eala lost momentum in the second.
She rallied in the third, winning three straight games to take a 6-5 lead and reach match point at 40-15.
However, Golubic fought back to force a tiebreak, which she dominated 7-0. Eala, ranked No. 58 in the WTA, had reached the quarterfinals in all her tournaments since winning the Guadalajara Open 125 last month but has yet to advance further.
Golubic, seeded sixth, will face No. 2 seed Tatjana Maria in the semifinals.
