THE House of Representatives has elected Isabela 6th District Representative Faustino “Bojie” Dy III as the new Speaker, succeeding Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez. Dy secured the position with a decisive 253 votes in his favor, 28 abstentions, and no opposing votes.
Dy’s election followed Romualdez’s resignation from the Speakership, which eliminated the need to declare the position vacant and paved the way for a smooth transition.
Quezon City Rep. Ralph Tulfo nominated Dy, and no other House member was nominated to challenge him. Prior to his election, Dy served as a Deputy Speaker under Romualdez, representing Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the political party of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Romualdez’s resignation occurred a day after he met with President Marcos and his son, House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos.
