A DRUNK driver who tried to drive away after hitting a traffic enforcer with his car failed to escape after bystanders threw stones at his car and another traffic personnel quickly arrested him when his vehicle stalled a few meters away from his hit-and-run victim.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Brigadier General Antonio Yarra lauded the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officer and bystanders who managed to arrest the suspect in the incident that happened at the corner of Quirino Highway and Kingspoint Drive in Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches, Quezon City.
According to District Traffic Enforcement Unit chief Lieutenant ColonelManny Siniguan, suspect Ernest Christian Randrup, 46, of Serramonte Filinvest East, San Isidro, Cainta, Rizal, had already bumped the car of Edgardo Suello, 51, of Valenzuela City, as both were traveling along Quirino Highway heading towards Mindanao Avenue.
Upon seeing what had happened, MMDA officer Adrian Beoncio flagged down the suspect but on stopping, a heated argument ensued and apparently in a rage thereafter, in Randrup tried to escape, hitting Beoncio while the officer was still aboard his motorcycle and injured his right foot.
Bystanders in the area saw the incident and threw stones at the suspect’s fleeing car which led to his arrest.
As Randrup got out of his car, he appeared visibly drunk and was proven positive to be under the influence of alcohol after a Land Transportation Office (LTO) personnel used an alcoholic breath analyzer on him.
