FORMER Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo has announced that she will not be seeking reelection in the 2025 polls, citing the multiple cases filed against her.
“I will first face the accusations against me and clear my name. This is to be fair to my constituents who I love,” Guo stated during a Senate hearing on Tuesday.
This decision comes as a reversal from her previous intention to seek re-election, as stated by her lawyer, Stephen David, who had earlier said his client would return to her post to demonstrate her love for the people of Bamban.
Guo is currently detained for a non-bailable human trafficking case and has also been charged with graft. These cases stem from her alleged involvement with a raided Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Bamban.
Further legal challenges await Guo, including pending complaints for money laundering and perjury before the Department of Justice. She is also facing a petition to cancel her belatedly registered birth certificate, raising questions about her identity.
Guo’s fingerprints have been matched to those of Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, adding another layer of complexity to her legal situation.
