A 33-year-old woman was arrested in an entrapment operation on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, for allegedly defrauding a Philippine Coast Guard officer.
Monette Queen Marine Abanggan, an unemployed resident of Brgy. Nocnocan, Talibon, Bohol, was apprehended at a mall in South Road Properties (SRP) at approximately 9:20 a.m.
Abanggan is accused of offering a fraudulent “no-show annulment” service to Lieutenant Adrian Rey Madrid, a Philippine Coast Guard member residing in Mahayag, Isabel, Leyte.
She reportedly posed as a secretary for Atty. Kahlil Griban Maranda, offering the service for P100,000. After receiving a P50,000 down payment from Lt. Madrid, who had verified that Abanggan was not employed by the lawyer, police moved in and arrested her.
Abanggan is currently detained at the Mambaling Police Station Detention Facility and will face charges of estafa (fraud) and usurpation of authority.
