MANILA Electric Co. (Meralco) customers will see an increase in their electricity bills this month, as the power distributor announced a rate hike of 23 centavos per kilowatt hour (kWh).
This brings the overall rate for a typical household to P13.3182 per kWh, up from P13.0851 per kWh in September.
Meralco attributed the upward adjustment to a higher generation charge, which increased by P0.1903 per kWh.
This means that households consuming 200 kWh will pay approximately P47 more on their monthly bill. The rate hike is expected to affect millions of Meralco customers in Metro Manila and surrounding areas.
The increase in generation charge reflects higher costs of sourcing power, potentially due to factors such as increased fuel prices or changes in the supply mix.
Meralco has yet to provide a detailed breakdown of the specific factors contributing to the higher generation charge.
