THE price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has gone down by ₱0.40 per kilogram effective September 1, 2026, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). This translates to a reduction of approximately ₱4.40 on the standard 11‑kilogram LPG cylinder, bringing modest relief to households relying on LPG for cooking.
The DOE explained that the decrease came despite a rise in the international LPG Contract Price — from $634 per metric ton in August to $649.50 in September. The overall cost still fell, however, due to lower freight rates — dropping from $120.82 to $94.41 per metric ton — and a slight improvement in the peso’s exchange rate, moving from ₱61.59 to ₱�1 in July to ₱61.40 to $1 in August. Energy Secretary Sharon Garin noted that while the reduction may appear modest, every peso saved helps families with other household expenses.
The DOE also pointed out that international LPG prices remain sensitive to global market conditions. The September increase in contract prices was driven by higher crude oil costs, geopolitical tensions, supply constraints in the Middle East, and stronger demand in Asia ahead of the winter season. Secretary Garin emphasized that the DOE will continue providing clear information on price movements so households can make informed decisions.
Retail prices for an 11‑kg LPG cylinder are estimated to range from ₱1,031 to ₱1,536 this September, though actual rates may vary by brand, location, and other market factors. Consumers are advised to compare prices in their area and purchase only from authorized dealers to ensure product quality and safety.
