THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has implemented a 60-day nationwide price freeze on basic necessities following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s declaration of a State of National Calamity due to Typhoon Tino and the anticipated arrival of Super Typhoon Uwan.
“The price freeze will remain in effect for 60 days, or until lifted by the President. The DTI has coordinated with all key agencies of the NPCC to protect consumers during this time,” the agency stated.
The DTI said it is working closely with manufacturers, retailers, and distributors to ensure a continuous supply of essential goods.
“All DTI Regional and Provincial Offices are on alert and ready to enforce the price freeze and ensure adequate supply throughout the country.”
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports that Typhoon Tino has claimed the lives of 188 people and injured 139 others. The price freeze aims to prevent price gouging and protect consumers from exploitation during this difficult time.
