THE three leading cola giants have issued exquisite joint statement confirming the shortage of premium refined sugar – an essential ingredient in the making of cola drinks.
Cocal-Cola Beverages, Philippines, ARC Refreshments Corporation and Pepsi Cola said that they are currently looking for ways to address the situation.
According to the Sugar Regulatory Commission, the country’s sugar projected sugar plantation of 1.8 million metric tons is 200,000 tons short of the annual demand of 2.03 metric tons seen during the past three years.
During the weekend, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he is considering importing 150,000 metric tons of sugar in October if the current stock from local production and previous importations will not be enough.
