MANILA is now brighter and safer as the City Government of Manila, under the leadership of Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, officially illuminated a 4-kilometer stretch of Osmeña Highway with the help of San Miguel Corporation (SMC).
Mayor Isko expressed his heartfelt gratitude to SMC President Ramon Ang for the company’s ₱20.8 million assistance, which made the installation of 1,162 LED tunnel lights possible—each with 24,000 lumens—covering 32 barangays across Districts 5 and 6.
The Mayor pursued the roadway lighting project in response to multiple reports from netizens, especially delivery riders, who frequently met accidents along the dimly lit stretch.
The newly illuminated stretch, switched on at 1:00 a.m., runs beneath the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 and spans from the boundary of Makati City at Zobel Roxas Street, passing through San Andres, President Quirino Avenue, A. Linao Street, Pedro Gil Street, Plaza Dilao, and Plaza Azul, all the way to West Zamora.
In an ambush interview, Mayor Isko stressed that the project’s success was achieved through collaboration between the private sector, national, and local governments, united by the goal of making roads safer.
“Mga batang Maynila, para po sa inyo ito! At sa mga dumadako sa Maynila, I hope this can help you, para safe while traversing the city of Manila, we will do more, we will do better,” said Mayor Isko.
With the well-lit roads, motorists and pedestrians can now travel more safely, reducing risks of accidents and street crimes such as snatching.
Mayor Isko also called on the 32 barangays along the route to help maintain the lighting facilities and ensure their long-term function.
The City Government of Manila remains steadfast in its mission to create a safer, brighter, and more vibrant city for all.
