AN airport cleaner was doing her daily cleaning chores at the departure area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 early Thursday when she swept a pair of dirty socks with dollar bills worth around P1 million.
Rosalinda Celero, an airport cleaner at NAIA, had swept up the socks from under a gang chair used by passengers to put their shoes back on. But she did not notice the bulging 202 pieces of dollar bills placed inside the socks until they got stuck in her dustpan.
Upon checking, she discovered the dollar bills of various denominations.
Celero immediately brought the socks to the NAIA T3 lost and found section, which conducted an inventory of the recovered items, according to a report by ABS-CBN.
The dollars were estimated to be worth over P1 million.
The Manila International Airport Authority is reviewing CCTV footage to determine the owner of the socks.
It was unclear how the unidentified passenger slipped the airport security X-ray without the money being detected.
Under the Bangko Sentral regulations, passengers are only allowed to carry a maximum of $10,000 in their hand-carry luggage.
