THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivols) said aftershocks are expected in the next two to three days.
On Thursday, over 800 aftershocks were felt on Thursday morning, a day after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Abra province.
As of 9 a.m., Phivolcs said the aftershock count was at 816. Of the figure, some 168 were “plotted” and “24” were felt, the agency’s latest information said.
The aftershocks, ranging from 1.5 to 5.0, are expected in the next two to three days, Phivolcs said.
With a depth of 17 kilometers, the 5.0 magnitude quake occurred at about 4:02 a.m., Thursday, some 12kms southwest of the town of Tayum, Abra where the strong magnitude 7.0 tremor took place at 8:43 a.m., on Wednesday.
Phivolcs said Intensity 4 was felt in Bangued, Abra while Instrumental Intensity 4 was recorded in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur and Intensity 3 over Sinait, Ilocos Sur; and Tabuk, Kalinga.
Meanwhile, Intensity 2 was recorded over Gonzaga, Penablanca, Cagayan; and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte Intensity 1 in Baguio City, Benguet; and Claveria, Cagayan.
