AN increase in dengue cases in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), aside from other regions it has earlier reported has been reported by the health department.
“Itong dengue cases sa Region 2, Region 9, at saka sa CAR, nakikita natin na tumataas po. Meron ring kaunting pagtaas sa BARMM area kung saan we are closely monitoring,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a radio interview.
Last week, Vergeire said the DOH saw a rise in dengue infections in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas, and Davao Region.
She, however, stressed that despite the recent increase in dengue cases in the country, the weekly reported dengue cases nationally this year were “still significantly lower” than the cases recorded in 2021.
On April 8, Zamboanga City declared a dengue outbreak after its dengue cases reached 893, including 11 deaths, from January 1 to April 2.
According to the city government, 85 dengue cases were recorded for morbidity week 13, up 963% from the same period in 2021.
Vergeire earlier said of all areas with a rise of dengue cases, only that from Zamboanga City has exceeded the epidemic threshold.
She added that the DOH has already activated fast lanes in hospitals and is constantly coordinating with local government units regarding the matter.
“Naninirahan ang mga lamok na ‘yan sa stagnant waters. Ang pinakamabisa po na prevention or preventive measure for that is maglinis tayo ng ating bakuran. Itapon lahat ng nag-iipon ng tubig,” she reminded the public.
