A 35‑year‑old police beat patroller assigned to the Sampaloc Police Station died Monday morning after accidentally shooting himself with his service firearm inside the Barangay 509 Hall along E. Quintos Street, near Dapitan Street in Sampaloc, Manila.
He was rushed to Chinese General Hospital but could not be saved and was declared dead on arrival. The officer, a resident of Permanent Housing in Balut, Tondo, was on official duty when the incident occurred at approximately 6:50 a.m.
According to initial police investigation, the victim and his fellow officers were visiting the barangay hall as part of their regular patrol duties. Before entering, he told a colleague he would fix his uniform first. Minutes later, another officer entering the facility saw him adjusting his uniform while reaching for his service weapon.
The officer reportedly slipped and fell, causing the gun to discharge — the bullet struck him in the head. His colleagues immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities are conducting a full investigation to confirm the exact sequence of events and circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge. The police force expressed condolences to the victim’s family and assured a transparent review of the incident, including an examination of how the weapon was handled and whether standard safety protocols were followed. Further updates will be released once the official investigation report is completed.
