MALACANANG has officially confirmed that United States President Donald Trump will travel to Manila next month to attend the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit.
Presidential Communications Officer Claire Castro made the announcement Wednesday, noting that specific details of the visit remain to be released. “It is confirmed, but the details will not be coming from me,” Castro told reporters, adding that further information would be issued through proper channels. The White House had previously signaled Trump’s intention to join the high-level gathering, which runs from November 16 to 18.
The summit will bring together leaders from across Southeast Asia and key global partners to address regional security, economic integration, and multilateral cooperation.
One of the most closely watched developments expected during Trump’s stay is the potential formal signing of the framework agreement for the Pax Silica initiative — a planned advanced manufacturing and technology hub spanning 1,620 hectares in New Clark City. The Bases Conversion and Development Authority has already submitted the legal framework governing the project to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for review.
Preparations for the summit also include heightened security measures, as Castro confirmed in September, citing anticipated protests related to the Pax Silica proposal. Following the ASEAN meetings, Trump and other participating leaders will travel directly to Shenzhen, China, to take part in the Asia‑Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting scheduled for November 18 and 19.
