Credit card transactions totaling ₱1,000,919.62 — including nearly ₱300,000 spent at a single Nike store in one day and a ₱205,000 dinner in Tokyo — were presented by the prosecution during Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial on Friday. Forensic financial analyst Atty. Alexander Cabrera laid out the seven entries in Table 25 of his report while testifying under questioning by Rep. Chel Diokno, highlighting purchases in Japan, Malaysia, and Davao that stand out against the modest lifestyle the Duterte family has publicly portrayed.
Three separate charges at Japan’s Mega Don Quijote outlets amounted to ₱239,887.83, including two transactions on the same day at the Shibuya branch totaling ₱128,778.59. A single dining charge at Ginza Inakaya in Tokyo came to ₱205,007.29, which Cabrera noted could represent a dinner. In Davao, two charges on the same day at Nike SM Davao Annex combined for ₱299,142, while an overseas purchase at Nike Pavilion Kuala Lumpur reached ₱256,882.50. The seven transactions together cross the ₱1‑million threshold in flagged credit card spending alone.
Immediately before reviewing the credit card records, Cabrera also detailed an approximately ₱96‑million sequence of bank transactions he described as a form of check‑kiting. He reported that ₱80 million was channeled into life insurance policies through four ₱20‑million payments, while the remaining roughly ₱16 million was disbursed over about 18 months before a final check was issued to close the account. The prosecution presented both sets of findings as part of its broader examination of unexplained wealth and financial activity not reflected in Duterte’s sworn asset disclosures.
