TWO people have been killed and seven others injured in a shooting incident at Banga National High School in Banga, South Cotabato, GMA Regional TV One Mindanao confirmed Friday.
The incident took place at 1:18 p.m. on school grounds, with the South Cotabato Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office verifying the initial casualty report. Authorities stated that the shooter is among the two fatalities.
Classes at all levels throughout the municipality of Banga have been suspended immediately in the wake of the tragedy, the Banga Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office announced.
The Department of Education (DepEd) expressed deep concern over the event, saying the safety and well‑being of students, teachers, and staff remain its top priority. DepEd added it is coordinating closely with the Schools Division Office, regional officials, local authorities, and law enforcement to establish the full facts and deliver necessary assistance.
The education agency has pledged to provide psychological first aid and mental health support to those affected by the violence. It also urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified accounts or speculation as investigators work to determine the motive and circumstances behind the shooting. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be released once verified information becomes available.
