BICOL Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon branded as the height of callousness and every bit self-serving the demand of Vice President Sara Duterte for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to resign from office.
Ridon, who serves as a member of the House prosecution in the impeachment trial of Duterte, said there would be no problem and even expected from the supporters of the Vice President to call for the resignation of the President.
But for the Vice President herself, as the constitutionally-provided first in the line of succession in case the President is removed from office, Ridon said that this was just plain humorous.
“Sa totoo lang nakakatawa yung kanyang panawagan para sa pagbibitiw ng ating Pangulo. Ang nakakatawa roon, yung makikinabang sa pag-alis halimbawa ng isang Pangulo yung mismong nananawagan,” Ridon said.
Speaking before her supporters outside of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) where she was supposed to attend her arraignment on her case of grave threats, the Vice President demanded that the President step down from office for being a liar, abusive and corrupt.
“Remember, we will continue to call for the removal of the problem plaguing our country, and that problem is Bongbong Marcos,” Duterte said.
Ridon said it may be the first time that a vice president is calling for the resignation of a sitting president based on his recollection.
“Di ko maalaala nung height ng EDSA Dos, or nung panahon ng Pangulong Duterte na yung pangalawang pangulo na pwedeng makinabang sa pagpapalit ng kung sino man maging pangulo ng panahon na yun, ay nananawagan ng pagbibitiw,” Ridon said.
“Very self-serving yung panawagan ng Pangalawang Pangulo na magbitiw sa pwesto ang ating Pangulo,” he added.
Ridon said the Vice President should just leave it to her spokespersons or supporters to express these types of sentiments.
“Dahil sa dulo, alam naman ng tao yun na ang makikinabang pag nagbitiw ang Pangulo ay walang iba kundi ang Pangalawang Pangulo. Nakakatawa yun, medyo makapal yung mukha pagka ganun,” Ridon said.
