UPON the directive of Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, the registered owner and designated driver of a luxury supercar have been served with a Show Cause Order (SCO) after the vehicle was found using a fake license plate while traveling on public roads.
Verification checks conducted by the LTO confirmed that the plate number displayed on the vehicle bore a different alphanumeric combination from the official license plate assigned to it. The owner and driver have been ordered to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and submit a verified sworn explanation regarding the violation of plate regulations, as well as show cause why their driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked on grounds of being considered an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
The designated driver’s license has been placed under a 90‑day preventive suspension and ordered surrendered to the IID. The supercar itself has been placed under alarm status, with the Law Enforcement Service instructed to impound the vehicle wherever it is found.
“There are no VIPs in the enforcement of the law. Regardless of who is involved, anyone proven to have violated the rules will be held accountable. The LTO will not hesitate to act against any violator. No favoritism, no loopholes, and no exemptions. The use of fake plates and evasion of legal obligations will not be tolerated,” Assistant Secretary Lacanilao stated.
The LTO reminded all motorists and registered vehicle owners to ensure that their documents, license plates, and registrations are legitimate and that all obligations are settled before using their vehicles on public roads. One’s status, name, or the value of their vehicle will never be a basis for exemption from regulations. The LTO assured that it will strictly investigate and act on all violations to preserve the integrity of the vehicle registration system and ensure that all offenders are held accountable.
