A MAGNITUDE 5.4 earthquake jolted a wide area covering Southern Tagalog, portions of Metro Manila, and Central Luzon on Friday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The tremor occurred at 10:38 a.m., with its epicenter located 13 kilometers southwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, at a depth of 14 kilometers. Initially reported as magnitude 5.8, the quake was later corrected to magnitude 5.4 and confirmed to be tectonic in origin.
The strongest shaking was recorded at Instrumental Intensity V, felt in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro. Intensity IV was observed in the Occidental Mindoro towns of Abra de Ilog, Looc, and Sablayan. Intensity III was recorded in Quezon City, Batangas City, and in Calapan City and Victoria town in Oriental Mindoro.
Intensity II was registered in several Batangas towns including Calatagan, Cuenca, Lemery, Mataasnakahoy, and San Luis; Dolores, Mauban, and Mulanay in Quezon; and Odiongan in Romblon. Meanwhile, Intensity I was felt across many areas: Caloocan, Malabon, and Navotas Cities; Abucay in Bataan; Malolos City, Marilao, Plaridel, and San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Bauan, Lipa City, Nasugbu, and Tanauan City in Batangas; Carmona, Imus City, Tagaytay City, and Trece Martires City in Cavite; and San Pablo City in Laguna. The same intensity was also recorded in Alabat, Calauag, Guinayangan, and Lucban in Quezon; Calintaan and San Jose in Occidental Mindoro; and Pinamalayan and Roxas in Oriental Mindoro.
