AUTHORITIES have recommended additional criminal charges against Tab Baldwin and other personnel, moving beyond hazing allegations to include homicide and reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, the DOJ confirmed Wednesday.
The CIDG’s supplemental referral marks a significant escalation in the investigation into the deaths of two Ateneo basketball players during a team‑building trip in Dipaculao, Aurora.
Prosecutors will assess whether the facts gathered support the more serious offenses, which carry heavier penalties than violations of the Anti‑Hazing Act. The new recommendation was formally turned over to the DOJ on July 1, and will be treated as part of the complete record of the case alongside the June 26 report.
Aside from the criminal case, Baldwin remains under fire for labor violations. He has conceded that he never secured an Alien Employment Permit despite more than a decade of coaching in the country, a matter now being looked into by DOLE. As the case moves forward, authorities continue to coordinate with the university and the families of the victims to ensure full accountability.
