THE University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) has handed down a landmark decision regarding the recent deaths within the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball program. Former head coach Tab Baldwin has been issued a perpetual ban, barring him from all UAAP competitions and from entering any UAAP venue.
The league emphasized that this ruling is final and cannot be appealed, marking the strongest disciplinary action the association can impose on an official or coach.
The decision follows a thorough review of circumstances surrounding the tragic losses that have shaken the Ateneo community. While the sanctions fall heavily on the former coach, the UAAP made clear that the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball team itself remains in good standing.
The team retains its full eligibility to compete in the upcoming UAAP Season 89, allowing the players to continue their campaign without further penalty or disruption to their participation in the league.
The ruling draws a clear distinction between individual accountability and institutional or team responsibility, holding the former coach personally responsible while sparing the team from collective punishment.
