MALIDEGAO, BARMM — A radio broadcaster and member of the barangay justice system was killed in a shooting incident on Thursday evening in Barangay Fort Pikit, within the Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The victim was identified as Nestor “Titing” Micator who served as part of the Lupon Tagapamayapa—the body tasked with settling local disputes—and also worked as a commentator and reporter for a radio station based in Pikit, North Cotabato. Authorities noted that he had also previously volunteered as a reporter in Kidapawan City during the recent election period.
The attack took place at around 6:40 p.m. on May 21 in Sitio Proper 1 while Micator was traveling on a motorcycle with his wife riding behind him. Unidentified gunmen approached and opened fire, hitting Micator in the head and killing him instantly. Fortunately, his wife was not harmed during the assault. Barangay Captain Jay R. Buda described the victim as a kind and peace‑loving person, qualities that led to his appointment as a member of the Lupon Tagapamayapa, making his death all the more shocking to the community.
Following the incident, personnel from the Malidegao Municipal Police Station immediately launched a probe to track down the perpetrators and establish the motive behind the killing. Investigators are looking into various angles, including his work as a media practitioner and his role in resolving community conflicts. Meanwhile, the victim’s family and supporters have called on authorities to conduct a thorough and fair investigation, appealing for swift justice to ensure that those responsible for Micator’s death are held accountable before the law.
