THE Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 118 has issued a new order granting former broadcaster Jay Sonza the opportunity to post bail, according to his legal counsel Atty. Mark Tolentino.
Tolentino confirmed the development, saying, “Yes. I was just informed today. But wala pa ako na received na court order,” indicating that while the decision has been relayed to them, the official document has yet to be obtained by the defense team.
The court set the bail amount at ₱10,000, paving the way for Sonza’s provisional liberty following a review of its earlier ruling on the case. His arraignment has been scheduled for Monday at 8:30 a.m.
Sonza was taken into custody last Thursday in connection with allegations that he disseminated false information on social media concerning the health of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The complaint was filed by the Department of Justice, based on posts the former broadcaster made in January 2026. Prosecutors claim that the content of these posts was deliberately crafted to discredit the Chief Executive and undermine public trust. With the latest court order, Sonza may be released pending trial, though he is still required to attend the scheduled arraignment where he will formally enter a plea to the charges filed against him.
